A
group of disastified customers are suing the Burgertown industry!
Their complaints are listed in the opening- HIT 'EM WHERE IT
HURTS. But what is Burgertown... Danny O'Riley takes us back to
the beginning with BURGERTOWN... a time when the burger giant was just
a dilapidated diner barely existing under the tracks
of Chicago's elevated train.
Spumoni and his two employees,
"the-almost-but-not-quite-romantically involved" Danny and Jan get
ready for the customers, but they fail once again to attarct any business,
things start to look bleak. The diner's owner, Sal Spumoni, is
bemoaning his lack of customers, cash, and charm in HUMPTY DUMPTY
WORLD. Sal is in debt to the mob, and Danny, who longs to try out some
of his burger innovations, is stuck WAITING STILL. Even the cheery Jan,
who dreams of completing dental hygienist school, seems glum as she
reflects on her life in UNDER THE TRAIN.
After
Danny accidentally 'invents' the amazing Triangle Burger (3 Bites and
You're Done) business soars and the little diner really begins to cook.
Then, when Patty Ramone arives as the sexy MISS BURGERTOWN, things get
too hot to handle. Jan finds herself out of the new BurgerTown triangle
as Patty, Sal, and Danny embrace their sudden new success in JUST THE
WAY I LIKE IT. Not even the FUNNY BUSINESS of a couple of dim witted
hit-men and the untimely passing of Spumoni can stop the diner's climb
to fame and fortune. At the end of Act I, Danny has it all... or does
he? Dressed
as BurgerTown's competitors, the Ensemble opens Act II as they try to
win the JINGLE WARS, but are no match for B-Town's Triangle Burger. A
year has passed. Dan and Patty, who head the now Billion-Dollar
BurgerTown Corporation, return to see the humble diner recognized as a
National Landmark. Jan arrives to find that Worldwide Fast Food Fame
has made Danny a whole different guy; he's no longer A SIMPLE MAN.
Patty dazzles the press with THAT SPECIAL SOMETHING, defending the
nutritional value of the Triangle Burger, as she attempts to ultimately
force a hostile takeover. She reveals herself as the Mob boss, and has
her thugs attempt to take-out Danny. Tied to a chair and seemingly with
no hope, Danny is visited by the almost-angelic vision of Sal in TAKE
THE DEAL. Waking up, Danny is left with choices to make, and Jan and he
work it out in WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? In the end, Patty gets the big
business, Dan and Jan get each other, and even the thugs are happy-- A
SATISFYING ENDING for all!! |
